Training day at Melrose VFD! Our crew ran live-fire drills on FM 226 this week. Full turnout gear, SCBA, real flames — all in a controlled training structure. Rescue teams also practiced house operations and victim extrication. This is how we stay ready to protect you.

When storms hit East Texas, Melrose VFD rolls out.
This week’s call: wet conditions, downed branches, and trees blocking the roadway. Firefighters handled traffic control and cleared debris to keep our community safe.
These aren’t rare calls for rural VFDs — they’re routine. That’s why we drill, train, and teach fire safety year-round.

Since 1976, our promise has been simple: be there when our neighbors need us.
For nearly 50 years, Melrose VFD volunteers have answered the call — day or night, rain or shine. We deliver fast emergency response, skilled fire suppression, and hands-on rescue services across Nacogdoches County. But our work doesn’t stop when the sirens do.
We invest in prevention through fire safety education, school programs, and community training. Because the best emergency is the one that never happens.
Generations have served. New volunteers join every year. The trucks change, the gear improves, but the mission stays the same: protect lives, protect homes, and protect the future of East Texas.
